Carmella T. Frew, 89, of Avoca, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Aug. 13, 2024, in Allied Services Hospice Center, Scranton.
Carmella was born in Scranton to the late Peter and Helene Smith Chickillo.
She was a 1953 graduate of Scranton Tech High School. She worked as a secretary for General Electric, Rex Craft and for over 20 years at St. Mary's Elementary School in Avoca until retirement. In addition to being an active member of Queen of the Apostles Parish (St. Mary's Church) in Avoca, Carmella also enjoyed for many years her weekly TOPS meetings in West Pittston with the good friends she met there. She was a loving wife, mother, sister, aunt and friend, and will be greatly missed.
In addition to her parents, Carmella was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 52 years, David James Frew.
Carmella is survived by her son, James Frew, Avoca; daughter, Sarah Frew, Avoca; sister, Grace Dymek, Moosic; and many nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be held at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday from Kiesinger Funeral Service Inc., 255 McAlpine St., Duryea, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Queen of the Apostles Church, 715 Hawthorne St., Avoca.
Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Avoca.
Family and friends are invited to call from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at Kiesinger Funeral Services, 255 McAlpine St., Duryea.
