Christine Renfer Galonis

Christine Renfer Galonis, 79, of Binghamton and formerly of Suscon, passed away on Wednesday, April 3, 2024, at Wilson Hospital, Johnson City, NY.  She was born in Suscon on February 11, 1945, and was the daughter of the late Ernest W. Renfer, Jr. and Erna Appel Renfer.


Christine graduated in 1961 at the age of 16 from St. John’s High school in Pittston. She then graduated from Lackawanna Jr. College.  She worked for many years as a bookkeeper at Roy Stauffers in Scranton and then Laura Fashions in Avoca.  She was the President of the Pennsylvania for Human Life, Pittston Chapter from 1975-1980.  She also loved singing in her choir at her church.  Christine was known for her love of cooking and baking and always feeding others including strangers.  She also was gifted with the skill of making many crocheted blankets for others during her life.

 

Christine loved and cared for many animals including strays and got many of them a home when in need.  She had an incredibly beautiful and generous heart and was a faithful servant of our Lord, a true humanitarian, and a living testament of the true meaning of the word love.  She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

 

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her son, James Galonis and her brother, Ernest W. Renfer III.

 

Christine is survived by her children, Frank and his wife Linda of Reading, Robert and his wife Barbara of Taylor, Edward of Pittston Twp., and Deborah Galonis and her partner Becca Schneider of Scranton.  She is also survived by her sister Rosemary Yanchulis of Pittston Twp. and her brother William Renfer, of Pittston Twp.  and her 10 grandchildren, one great grandchild and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

 

A mass of Christian burial will be held on Tuesday, April 9th at 10:00am at Queen of the Apostles Parish Church, 715 Hawthorne St., Avoca with Fr. Phillip Sladicka officiating.  Friends may call for visitation on Tuesday morning at the church from 9am until time of mass.
