Clara (Plis) Kosik

Clara (Plis) Kosik, 94, of Dupont, passed away on Tuesday, July 18th, 2023, at the Linwood Nursing and Rehab Center, Scranton. She was born in Dupont on February 2, 1929, and was the daughter of the late Joseph and Catherine Mazon Plis.

Prior to its closing, Clara was a devoted member of St. John the Baptist Church, Pittston and was currently a member of St. John The Evangelist Church, Pittston. She was a graduate of Dupont High School, Class of 1947. For many years, Clara worked in the local garment industry and retired from the Pittston Area School District.


Clara was an outstanding cook and baker. Her family looked forward to family dinners and holidays to gather and to enjoy the food she skillfully and lovingly prepared.


She was a big fan of Broadway and often traveled to theater performances in the Poconos and NYC. There was always a playbill in the house reflecting her passion for live performances.


Throughout the 1960's and 70's, Clara met monthly with her closest girlfriends to play pinochle. Lifelong caring and supportive relationships were created as a result of these monthly gatherings.


Family was the heart of Clara's life and her presence will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved her.


In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Edward Cyril Kosik ,Sr., who passed away April 12th, 2009; her son David M Kosik; her sister Matilda Viercinski; and her brothers John and Frank C. Plis.


She is survived by her sons, Edward Kosik, Jr and his wife Sharon, of Walnutport, PA and Joseph and his wife Nicole, of Binghamton, NY; her grandchildren, Steven and wife Tricia, Joseph, David, Jr., Christian and Elizabeth, great grandchild Anna Mae and Marshall; her daughter-in-law Karen Kosik; and many nieces and nephews.


Clara’s family would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and staff of the Linwood Nursing and Rehab Center and Hospice of The Sacred Heart for their excellent care and compassion shown to Clara and her family. A Special thanks to our Mom's caretaker, Tracey Curry


Funeral services will be held on Monday, July 24th at 11:30am from Kiesinger Funeral Services, Inc., 255 McAlpine St., Duryea with a mass of Christian burial at 12:00pm at St. John The Evangelist Church, Pittston with Fr. Joseph Elston officiating. Friends may call for visitation at the funeral home on Monday morning, July 24th from 10am until 11:30am. Interment will be held at St. John The Baptist Cemetery, Exeter.
