Criss Guy

Criss Guy, 74, of Avoca, passed away on December 12, 2022 at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Hospital Wilkes-Barre. He was born in Mobile, Alabama on September 3, 1948 and was the son of the late Criss and Maggie Witherspoon Guy.

Criss was raised in Detroit, Michigan. He was a graduate of Western High School, Detroit. He worked various jobs throughout his life. Later in life, Criss worked as a barber and hair stylist. He always did his best to ensure that his clients looked their best.

Growing up in the Motor City, Criss spent countless hours taking care of his cars. He was often found in the driveway cleaning or fixing up his Cadillac. Driving and working on his car coincided with his love of music. The songs of Pattie LaBelle, The Isley Brothers, Luther Vandross, Barry White, and others playing over car speakers signaled his departure and return from home.

He loved cooking, grilling, and baking. He relished opportunities to see his loved ones eat up the delicious meals he made on special occasions and holidays. His outdoor hobbies included landscaping, fishing, and hunting. For years, he took great pride in the yard work and handy work he was responsible for at home.

Criss was a former athlete and dedicated sports fan who especially loved cheering on his football teams, the Michigan Wolverines, and the Las Vegas Raiders. This November, he thoroughly enjoyed watching Michigan beat Ohio State with his son Criss, Jr. by his side one last time.

One of his favorite activities was praising the accomplishments of his family and loved ones to anyone who would listen. Whether it was showing school yearbook photos to grocery store clerks or commenting on family members’ social media posts, Criss was happiest seeing the people he cared about succeed.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death his brother, Joseph Guy and sisters, Patricia Rhone and Joann Johnson.

Criss is survived by his companion of 35 years Lisa Wohlgezogen, his son Criss Guy, Jr. of North Carolina, daughter Cristal Guy of Georgia; grandchildren Madyson Guy Grand, Kylie Guy Grand, and Demarco Guy; and great granddaughter Londyn Guy. Also surviving are his brother Michael Guy, of Detroit, MI., and sister Regina Griffin, of Detroit, MI and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family.

Arrangements are made by Kiesinger Funeral Services, Inc., 255 McAlpine St., Duryea.
