Dawn Fulkerson Major, 71, passed away on Sunday, May 14, 2023, surrounded by her loving family and friends at Hospice of The Sacred Heart, Dunmore. Her daughter Stacy was there to carry her in to her last moments. She was born in Pittston on December 5, 1951, and was the daughter of the late Gilbert and Leora Lampman Fulkerson.
Dawn was a graduate of Pittston Area High School and attended the Career Technology School of Nursing. She retired as a nurse’s aide after many years of employment from the Highland Manor Nursing Center, Exeter.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her brother Norman Fulkerson and her sister Gloria Bonczek.
Dawn is survived by her loving husband of 45 years, Joseph Major; canine companion Dusty; her daughter Stacy Major and her significant other Richard Jiosne, of Avoca; grandson Vanson Jiosne; estranged son Robert Strungis, of Swoyersville; granddaughters Courtney and Sierra; two great grandchildren; and stepson Joseph Major and his wife Linda, of Effort, PA. Also surviving are step grandchildren, Amanda, Alex, Christopher, Samantha and Jeremy, and multiple step great grandchildren, her sister Debbie Tracy and husband Frank, of West Pittston, and many nieces and nephews.
Dawn’s family would like to express their gratitude to the nurses and staff of Geisinger 4 West, the nurses and staff of Hospice of The Sacred Heart, Dunmore and her dear friend Barbara Fairchild.
A blessing service will be held on Thursday, May 18, at 3:30pm, at Kiesinger Funeral Services, Inc., 255 McAlpine St., Duryea with Fr. August Ricciardi of Prince of Peace Parish Church, Old Forge, officiating. Family and friends may call for visitation from 2pm until time of service.
