Donald P. Keating

Donald P. Keating, 79, of Jefferson Twp, passed away on February 10, 2024 at his home surrounded by his loving family.  He was born in Scranton on October 4th, 1944, and was the son of the late William Keating, Sr. and Helen (Robertson) Keating.

Donald was a member of the first graduating class of North Pocono High School in 1964 and a 1980 graduate of Lackawanna Jr. College.  He served as Jefferson Township Chief of Police for approximately 10 years, while working for Fitchburg Coating Products for 26 years. Donald relocated to Winchester, VA and was employed by Green Bay Packaging in Winchester VA, where he retired in 2016 after 23 years.

Donald, known to his friends and family as "Scatter" loved the outdoors.  He could regularly be found pulling his camper across the country to hunt, fish, or even hike.  One of his favorite places to visit was the Allagash where he spent a lot of time over the years.  When at home, he enjoyed working with his sawmill or spending time in the garden.   He loved old country and bluegrass music and would often travel to see his favorite artists.

His children and grandchildren were his pride and joy.  He loved to teach them all about his favorite outdoor activities and was known for his stories and fun facts.  He had quite a sweet tooth and would trade his dinner for one of his sister’s sweet treats.

Donald was loved dearly by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. He was kind, charismatic, full of love, and would lend a hand to even a stranger. He will be greatly missed.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his grandson Christopher Keating, his infant brother Paul, and brothers Andrew and William.

Donald is survived by his children Donnie and his wife Fran, of Jefferson Twp., Bonnie Nidoh and her fiancé Glenn Rhoads, of Jefferson Twp., Scott Keating and his wife Denise Mangan Keating, of Jefferson Twp., Miranda “Stormie” Keating and her fiancé Ronnie Purnell of Winchester, VA., and Steven Keating of Winchester, VA.  Also surviving are his sisters Mary Lou Brundage, Helen Harkins, Ann Zeiler, and Theresa Pierre; his brothers, John, Joseph, Charles, Edward, Willard, Danny, and James Keating; fifteen grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
