Dorothy A. Maleski, 92, of Avoca, passed away on Tuesday, August 10, 2021 at Moses Taylor Hospital, Scranton. She was born in Avoca, April 4, 1929 and was the daughter of the late John and Anna (Gutowski) Danilovitz. Dorothy’s mother passed away during the birthing process, and Dorothy was also preceded in death by her grandmother who raised her Pearl Gutowski and her second mother, Helen (Gutowski) Danilovitz, who treated her like a daughter.
She was a former member of SS Peter and Paul Church, Avoca. A graduate of Moosic High School. Dorothy retired in 1992 from the Parodi Cigar Co., Moosic after 25 years of employment.
Dorothy was a member of the Dupont VFW, where she enjoyed her Saturday night dancing with her friends. She took much pride in her yard and loved to attend to her flowers and vegetable gardens during the spring and summer months. Most of all she enjoyed spending time with her loving family, grandchildren, and great grandchildren that she adored. She enjoyed traveling, playing cards, and keeping herself mentally sharp with word search games. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
In addition to her parents, her grandmother and her second mother, she is preceded in death by her husband Vincent J. Maleski, who died August 11, 1992, as well as her brothers Joseph, Daniel and Thomas Danilovitz and her son-in-law Thomas Knoll.
She is survived by her daughters, Marlene and David Kramer, of Lake Ariel and Marsha Knoll, of Venice, Florida. Also surviving are her grandchildren; Dana Hinkley and Guy Solano her great grandchildren; Stephen Hinkley Jr., Ariana Solano and Nico Solano and many nieces and nephews.
As per Dorothy’s wishes, funeral services will be privately held at the convenience of the family.
Dorothy’s family would like to thank her wonderful neighbors, Danny and JoAnne Preston, Jeremy Jones and Tom and Beverly Shaffer, they would also like to thank the wonderful, caring and compassionate staff of Moses Taylor Hospital, Dr. John J. Haber, and nurses; Jessica, Courtney, Raymond, Joanna and P.J.
