Dorothy Ann Luke

Dorothy Ann Luke, 98, of Exeter, passed away on May 16, 2022, at Wesley Village Nursing and Care Center, Pittston. She was born in Exeter, December 22, 1923 and was the daughter of the late Joseph and Anna Zavada Peeler.

Dorothy was life-long member of St. Cecilia’s Parish Church, Exeter. She attended St. Cecilia’s Parochial School and graduated from St. Cecilia’s Catholic High School. She worked many years for the Wyoming Silk Mill. Dorothy then raised her children along with her husband, and decided to enter the workforce, and she retired from the Rex Shoe Factory.


Dorothy was considered a pillar of her church, she was a very active member of St. Cecilia’s parish, now St. Barbra’s Parish, she was a Cantor and a Eucharistic Minister for the parish. She was involved with the parish choir and taught 3rd grade Catechism for over 30 years. She was also a member of the Christian Woman’s Society. Dorothy loved spending time with her family and friends, especially attending all family gatherings and special family events. She was a loving wife, mother, grand-

mother, and friend and she will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.


In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband John W. Luke, who died March 17, 1978, her infant son Girard John Luke, and her siblings; Joseph Peeler, Mary Grebas, John Peeler, Helen Ostrowski, Thomas Peeler, and Paul Peeler.


Dorothy is survived by her daughter, Anne Luke, of Exeter and son John M. Luke and his wife Diane Nyzio Luke, of Pittston Twp. Also surviving are her step-grandchildren; Richard Gedrich and his wife Lauren, Jonathon Gedrich and his fiancé Liz Baldassari, great step grandchildren; Jonathan Gedrich, Jr., Kaycie Gedrich and Evan Gedrich and many nieces and nephews.


Funeral services will be held on Monday, May 23, 2022, at 9:30am from Kiesinger Funeral Services, Inc., 255 McAlpine St., Duryea with a mass of Christian burial at 10:00am at St. Barbara’s Parish Church, 28 Memorial St., Exeter with Fr. Paul McDonnell officiating. Friends may call on Sunday evening, May 22nd from 5-8pm. Interment will be held at St. Mary’s Assumption Cemetery, Hughestown.
