Dorothy (Pintha) Pucilowski

Dorothy (Pintha) Pucilowski, 87, of Duryea, passed away on Wednesday, June 9, 2021, at her home. She was born in Duryea, May 26, 1934 and was the daughter of the late Frank and Antoinette (Malig) Pintha.

Dorothy was a member of Nativity of Our Lord Parish Church, Duryea. She was a 1952 graduate of Duryea High School. She worked for Consolidated Cigar, West Pittston until its closing and eventually retired from Schott Optical Duryea, where she was employed from 1979-1999.


Dorothy was considered the “MacGyver” of her family; she found a use for everything in her home, and had the ability to improvise any household item to benefit her home. She loved spending time with her family and friends and enjoyed her free time spending weekends at her family cabin in Shohola. Dorothy especially enjoyed her chatting sessions with her sister-in-law and friend, Marie Wilk. COVID may have kept them from speaking in person for over a year, but COVID didn’t stop the family news from making its rounds. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and friend and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.


In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Joseph L. Pucilowski, who died May 28, 2000, her son David Pucilowski, and brother

Leonard Pintha.


She is survived by her children, James and his wife Doris of Shohola, PA and daughter Cathy van Hoof and her husband Peter, of Moosic. Also surviving are her grandchildren; Jennifer Pawlikowski, Christine Johnson, and Nicholas van Hoof, and Eric van Hoof great grandchildren; Kayla Johnson, Tyler and Mackenzie Pawlikowski and several nieces and nephews.


A mass of Christian burial will be held on Monday, June 14, 2021, at 10:00am at Nativity of Our Lord Parish Church, 127 Stephenson St., Duryea with Fr. John Polednak officiating.


Arrangements are made by Kiesinger Funeral Services, Inc., 255 McAlpine St., Duryea.
