Edward J. Zielinski, Sr.

Edward J. Zielinski, Sr., 94, of Dupont passed away peacefully on May 18, 2025, at the Gino J. Merli Veterans Center, Scranton.  He was born in Dupont on December 7th, 1930, and was the son of the late John and Mary (Pliss) Zielinski.


Edward was a devoted lifelong member of Sacred Heart Church in Dupont and a member of the Holy Name Society.


Edward was a graduate of the University of Scranton with a degree in Environmental Engineering.  He enlisted in the US Navy and was a Veteran of the Korean War.  Furthering in his military career, he was a retired Staff Sgt. from the PA National Guard.  Ed was a past Commander of the VFW post 4909 of Dupont.


Edward was a avid golfer and enjoyed bowling weekly at Elko’s Lanes.  He explored the great outdoors, hunting and fishing with his son and grandson and tending to his garden.


In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 63 years, Anna (Czachor) Zielinski, who died May 30, 2021.  He was also preceded by siblings, Bernard Zielinski and Marianne Chadwick.


Edward is survived by his son, Edward J. Zielinski, Jr. and his wife Melanie; his grandchildren, Allison Yonki and her husband Christopher, Gregory A. Zielinski and his wife Courtney, Emily A. Bertoni and her husband, Robert.  And his four great grandchildren, Brayden and Connor Yonki, Lola Tirva, and Gabriel Zielinski and several nieces and nephews.


A mass of Christian burial will be held on Friday, May 23, 2025, at 10:00am at Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, 215 Lackawanna Ave., Dupont, with Fr. Thomas Petro officiating. Interment will be held at the parish cemetery, the AMVETS Honor Guard of Greater Pittston will provide military honors.
