Edward John “Snubby” Maopolski, Sr.

Edward John “Snubby” Maopolski, Sr., 81, of Duryea passed away on Tuesday, September 21, 2021, peacefully at his home. He was born in Duryea, February 20, 1940 and was the son of the late Edward and Sophie (Maszeroski) Maopolski.

He was a graduate of Duryea High School class of 1957. After graduation, he joined the US Army and was a combat veteran that served in operation Power Pack located in the Dominican Republic from 1965-1966. Upon his discharge from the military, he attended the University of Scranton and studied engineering. Throughout his life, he worked as a self-employed contractor.


“Snubby” was a man of many talents. He enjoyed working with his hands and using his engineering skills in the many projects he was involved with. He was an avid chess player. Edward played competitive chess in many local and regional chess tournaments. He played at a very high level and was a member of the US Chess Federation. “Snubby” was also a member of the Duryea VFW Post 1227. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.


In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Sara (Herron) Maopolski, who died November 3, 2010, his brother Paul, and his sister Elaine Neureuter.


Edward is survived by his son, Edward John Maopolski, Jr. and his finance Misty Sanouvong, of Dupont, daughter Sophia L. Maopolski of Duryea, and daughter Marion E. Reilly and her husband Dan, of Bloomsburg; stepchildren Michael Wescott and his fiancé Kim O’Boyle, of Duryea, Sarah L. Wescott of Duryea, and Sherri Schnitzler and husband Andrew of Stillwater. Also surviving are his 14 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.


Celebration of life services will take place on Sunday, September 26, 2021, from 1pm-3pm at the Duryea VFW, 492 Stephenson St., Duryea PA. Interment will take place at a later date.


Arrangements are made by Kiesinger Funeral Services, Inc., 255 McAlpine St., Duryea.
