Edward W. Karp

Edward W. Karp, 97, of Glendale passed away on Saturday, April 1, 2023, at the VA Medical Center, Wilkes Barre. Born in Moosic, August 7, 1925, he was the son of the late Edward Karp and Helen Sanderson Karp.

Edward was a member of the Springbrook Congregational Church, Springbrook. He was a graduate of Moosic High School, and then enlisted into the US Army Air Force, where he trained as a pilot, having served during WWII from 1943-1945. After his service time, he worked for various companies as a pilot and then retired as manager from the Honesdale Gas Company, where her worked along with his wife, Louise M. Lencheski Karp, who died on June 25, 2022.


In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his first wife, Jean Webb Karp and his sisters, Nellie Aldrich and LT. Colonel Charlotte E. Sanderson.


Edward is survived by his daughter Ruth Mierzwa, of Nanticoke and his sisters, Sally Powell, of Glendale and Nancy Miles, of Scranton. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.


Memorial services will be held on Saturday morning, April 8th at 11:00am at the Springbrook Congregational Church, 213 Beech Rd., Springbrook with Pastor Doug Littleton, officiating. Friends may call on Friday evening, April 7th from 5pm-7pm at Kiesinger Funeral Services, Inc., 255 McAlpine St., Duryea. Interment will be held at the Springbrook Cemetery. AMVETS Honor Guard of Greater Pittston will provide military honors.


In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758516, Topeka, Kansas 66675-8516.
