Elizabeth A. Durkin, 84, of Avoca, beloved mother, entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, March 3, 2021 at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Hospital, Wilkes-Barre surrounded by her sons. She was born in Avoca, March 6, 1936 and was the daughter of the late John and Sadie (Sheerer) McIntyre.
Elizabeth was a member of Queen of The Apostles Parish Church, Avoca. She was a 1954 graduate of Duryea High School. She was employed at Kmart Department Store, Pittston and retired after many years of employment. After her retirement, she was very proud to have worked with all of the children that attended Treasure House Day Care Center, Wilkes-Barre. She and her husband Francis were very strong supporters of the Luzerne County S.P.C.A.
Elizabeth was a loving wife, mother, sister, aunt and friend and she will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Francis P. Durkin, who passed away on November 6, 2017, her sister Mary McIntyre Barrett, and brothers James, Jack and Paul McIntyre, as well as her beloved dog, Molly.
Elizabeth is survived by her sons Philip and John Durkin, both of Avoca, her sister-in-law Peggy McIntyre and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A mass of Christian burial will be held on Saturday, March 6, 2021 at 11:00am at Queen of The Apostles Parish Church, 715 Hawthorne St., Avoca with Fr. Phillip Sladicka officiating. Friends may call for a walk thru visitation on Saturday morning from 9:30am until time of mass. If attending the visitation or mass please be mindful that facial masks and safe social distancing are mandatory at all times per CDC regulations. Interment will be held at St. Mary's Cemetery, Avoca .
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the S.P.C.A. of Luzerne County, 524 E. Main St., Wilkes-Barre PA 18702 or to Queen of The Apostles Parish Church, 715 Hawthorne St., Avoca, Pa 18641.
