James Fela, 66, of Avoca, passed away on Tuesday September 17, 2024 at Allied Hospice Center Meade St. Willkes-Barre. He was born in the Taylor Hospital January 15, 1958 and was the son of Rosann (George) Fela and the late James Fila.
Jim was a member of Queen Of The Apostles Parish Church, Avoca. He was a graduate of Pittston Area High School class of 1975. He worked for several local businesses in his younger years and was employed at the Eureka Stone Quarry for many years working at its many locations. Jim was a member of the West Side Social Club, Avoca and the Duryea American Legion.
James was an avid outdoorsman that enjoyed hunting and fishing, he was a fan of the Dallas Cowboy’s and was a classic car enthusiast that enjoyed restoring his 1985 Corvette. James was a loving husband, son and friend, he will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
In addition to his father he is preceded in death by his sister-in-law Joanne Phillips.
He is survived by his mother Rosann, of Avoca, his wife of 37 years Janet (Yurkanin) Fela and his pet cats, Tiger and Angel.
Jim’s family would like to thank Dr. Darlene Dunay and many of the doctors, nurses and staff that had taken excellent care of Jim over the last 9 years.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the SPCA of Luzerne County 524 E. Main St. Wilkes-Barre, PA 18702.
A mass of Christian burial will be held on Saturday September 21, 2024 at 10am at Queen Of The Apostles Parish Church 715 Hawthorne St. Avoca with Fr. Phillip Sladicka officiating. Friends may call for visitation on Saturday morning from 9am until time of mass. Interment will be held at a later date at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Avoca.
