James J. Babkowski, 71, of Avoca, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, September 7th, at his home. He was born in Avoca, December 20, 1952, and was the son of the late Joseph F. Babkowski and Beatrice (Barbuti) Babkowski.
James was a graduate of Pittston Area High School, class of 1970. He then attended Millersville University, Lancaster County, PA.
For many years, James worked as a professional drummer, having played with many local groups. He was a very talented graphic artist, having worked for Wyoming Paint in the graphic art department. In the 1970’s, James went on to manage several locations of the retail clothing company the Chess King. He was also the owner and operator of the Bum Steer Saloon, Scranton. James then worked many years in industrial marketing and advertising sales department for the Thomas Register Company and then retired from Global Spec., Inc.
James was a motorcycle enthusiast with a vast collection of vintage British motorcycles. He was a very active member of the “Rockers” British motorcycle Enthusiast Club.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother John J. Babkowski.
James is survived by his children, James M. Babkowski, of Avoca, Jan L. Babkowski, of Avoca and Abigail K. Babkowski Emrick and her husband Chris, of Dallas. Also surviving are his 3 grandsons, Harrison Carter, Oakley, and Julian, his brother Joseph S. Babkowski and his wife Patricia, of Avoca and his nieces and nephews.
Celebration of life services for James will be held at the convenience of the family.
