James John Dooner, 68, a resident of Pembroke Pines, FL and formerly Avoca, PA passed to his eternal reward after a courageous battle with cancer on Wednesday, March 23, 2022, at the University of Miami Hospital, Miami, FL.
James was born in Pittston on July 19, 1953, and was the son of the late James and Marie (Lepore) Dooner, Avoca.
James graduated from King’s College, Wilkes-Barre with a Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice/Political Science in 1975. He then moved to Florida where he served as a Police Officer/Deputy Sheriff in Miami-Dade County, retiring in 2009. He was active over the years, enjoying life with family and friends. James was an avid fisher, traveler, and a food connoisseur.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Paula.
He was a loving cousin and friend. He was kind and generous to everyone he met and all who knew him.
James is survived by many cousins, friends and his beloved Yorkie, Tiffany Marie, all who love him dearly.
Visitation will begin at 9:30 am on Thursday, March 31, 2022, at Queen of Apostles Church, 715 Hawthorne
St., Avoca, PA. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 am with Fr. Phillip Sladicka officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
