James T Bennie, Sr., 81, of Moosic, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully on October 4, 2025.

Born on August 17, 1944, in Moosic, he was the son of the late Robert and Agnes (Coleman) Bennie. Jim was a proud graduate of South Scranton Catholic High School. He began his career as a machinist and went on to work as a machine operator at Cascade Tissue, where he dedicated 39 years of hard work and commitment.

A devoted husband, father, and grandfather, Jim, is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Genevieve; his son, Jimmy, and daughter-in-law, Aubrey; and his cherished granddaughter, Gabriella. He is also survived by his sister, Mildred and her husband, Carl Cesare of Moosic; sisters-in-law, Joann Bennie, and Mary Romanoski; and many beloved nieces and nephews. He shared a special bond with his nephew, Eddie Loftus, who was like a brother to him.

Jim was preceded in death by his brothers Robert, Thomas, and William Bennie, and his sisters Ann, Mary, and Joan Bennie, Agnes Loftus, and Margaret Johnson.

He served honorably in the National Guard and lived a life full of passion and purpose. Jim loved his 35 Ford hot rod and attending classic car shows with his nephew Eddie. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing and hunting, but his greatest joy came from spending time with his wife, Genevieve, and his family.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jim’s memory to The Salvation Army, an organization he deeply admired.

The family wishes to extend heartfelt thanks to all the doctors and nurses at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital and the loving staff at Hospice of the Sacred Heart in Dunmore for their care, compassion, and support.

Jim will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

A mass of Christian burial will be held on Thursday, October 9, 2025, at 10:00am at Nativity of Our Lord Parish Church, 127 Stephenson St., Duryea, with Fr. Michael Bryant officiating. Friends may call for visitation on Thursday morning at the church from 9:00am until time of mass. Interment will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, West Avoca. Arrangements are made by Kiesinger Funeral Services, Inc., 255 McAlpine St., Duryea.

I'm so sorry to see that Jimmy has passed away. He worked with my Mom for years at Potlatch/Cascade. She always spoke so highly of Jim and Genevieve.

Your family are in my thoughts

I am so sorry for your loss. I will miss Jimmy's wit, knowledge and persona. He was a true old-time neighbor: Ready to loan you a tool, helping when asked, keeping an 'eye' on things and always with a story.

While I will miss the funeral, know that I'm just across the street, ready to help with anything you need.

Jimmy was a good friend in high school. We shared interests in cars, and it was nice to see he still had a “hot rod” after all these years. We used to meet at Amato’s in Moosic and roam junkyards for parts. He was a friend to everyone and I’m glad to see he had a good life.
