Jean Marie (“Jeanne”) Runsky McMahon

Jean Marie (“Jeanne”) Runsky McMahon, Moosic, age 70, passed away peacefully at Regional Hospital of Scranton on Sunday, February 4th surrounded by her family. Her loving husband of 43 years, Terry McMahon III, predeceased her in 2018.


Born in Scranton on February 6, 1953 and raised in Avoca, she was the youngest daughter of the late Edmund and Helen Grella Runsky.  Jeanne was a 1970 graduate of St. John the Evangelist High School, Pittston and a 1973 graduate of East Stroudsburg State College with a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology and minor in Art. She later earned her Master’s degree in Social Work from Marywood College.

 

Jeanne served as an officer of the Saint Mary of the Assumption Mother’s Guild, Pittston, planning many of their fundraisers and events. She supported her children in their extracurricular activities. She also took great pride and enjoyment in decorating her home. A lifelong Catholic, she was currently a member of St. Mary's Church, Avoca (Queen of the Apostles Parish).

 

Surviving are her three children, their spouses and seven grandchildren: son Terry IV, his wife Alexandra and their daughters Reagan and Delaney; daughter Elizabeth Kaciubij, her husband Shawn and their sons Trevor, Jeremy and Dylan; and son Matthew, his wife Joan, and their children Patrick and Olivia. She is also survived by her sister Mary Ann Leschingski, brothers and sisters-in-law Dr. Tom and Jo-Ellen McMahon, Jimbo and Mary Alice McMahon, Kathy McMahon and Jane and AJ Palutis, along with many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by her sister, Lorraine Williams, in-laws Doc and Joan McMahon, brothers-in-law Frank Leschingski, Michael McMahon, Lance Williams and niece Maura McMahon.

 

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Saint Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital or the Cancer Support Community of the Greater Lehigh Valley. Jeanne’s family would like to thank Dr. Terry Lenehan, Dr. Daniel Brown, and the nurses of the Intensive Care Unit at the Regional Hospital of Scranton for their compassionate care.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 10 at Queen of the Apostles Parish, 715 Hawthorne St., Avoca, with the Rev. Phillip Sladicka and Rev. Eugene Carr officiating. Friends may call at the church from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Interment, Cathedral Cemetery.
