It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Jeanne D. Gutowski, 65, of Avoca, who passed away on Friday, May 16, 2025. A devoted wife, beloved mother, cherished aunt, godmother, and friend, Jeanne passed away peacefully after a courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by love and family. She was the glue that held her family together — a beautiful soul remembered for her kindness, compassion, and unwavering love.

More than a mother, Jeanne was a best friend to her daughter, Dawn Peterson of Scranton, and her son, Michael Gutowski of Avoca. Her heart and life were shared with her loving husband of 44 years, Donald “Babe” Gutowski, with whom she built a home filled with warmth in West Avoca.
Jeanne was a devoted housewife who took pride in caring for her family and creating a loving space for all who knew her. She enjoyed simple pleasures — tending to her yard, spending time with friends, and taking memorable trips to Atlantic City. Jeanne also shared a special bond with her beloved cat and companion, Princess.
She had deep admiration for both her stepsons, Paul Gutowski and his partner Tom Shaffer of Avoca, and Peter Gutowski and his wife Dorinia of Moscow, whom she welcomed with warmth and pride.
Jeanne is survived by her loving sister and best friend Deborah Bomber and her husband Pat Connolly of Duryea, who stood by her side and held her hand in her final days, and by her brother Bernie Ambrosavage and his wife Debbie of Harding. She is also lovingly remembered by her nieces and nephews: Little Bernie Ambrosavage, Godson Lee Bomber, Goddaughter Danielle Nicholas Ambrosavage, Eric Ambrosavage, Jeremy Ambrosavage, and Stacey Ambrosavage Hintze.
Jeanne deeply loved spending time with her sister-in-law and best friend, Sharon Thorne, whose companionship brought her joy and laughter through the years. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Janice Hannon, her daughter Kim Hannon Gill and husband Mike Gill all of Avoca.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Jeanne Moluski Ambrosavage, her father Bernie Ambrosavage, her brothers Paul Ambrosavage and David Ambrosavage, her sister Donna Mackowski, and her dear nephew, Patrick Thorne and her beloved niece Mary Lou Bomber.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the compassionate caregivers at Hospice of The Sacred Heart and First Light Home Care of Scranton for their dedicated support and care.
In lieu of flowers, please send donations in Jeanne’s name to a cancer foundation of your choice or to Hospice of the Sacred Heart in Dunmore, PA, who had the gentlest hearts in assisting with her transition with dignity and love.
The precious memories we have made with Jeanne will live forever in our hearts.
Jeanne's legacy lives on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her. Her kindness, strength, and selfless love will never be forgotten.
Rest easy, Jeanne. You’ve earned it. Until we meet again.
There will be a private viewing arranged at a time when the family is ready. A Mass and breakfast in her honor will be held at a later date with immediate family and close friends.
Arrangements are made by Kiesinger Funeral Services, Inc., 255 McAlpine St., Duryea.
