Joan Jaksina

Joan Jaksina, 80, passed away on Sunday, November 1, 2020 at the home of her daughter while under the care of her loving family and Hospice of the Sacred Heart. She was born in Pittston, September 17, 1940 and was the daughter of the late Stanley and Helen (Shamanski) Warunek.

Joan was a graduate of Avoca High School. She worked for the Consolidated Cigar Factory, the local garment industry and retired after many years of employment from the VA Medical Center, Wilkes-Barre as the store clerk. Joan was a loving mother, grandmother, sister and friend and she will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her first husband Raymond Sekelsky, Sr., who died in 1972, and her second husband Ronald Jaksina, who died in 1999. Also her son Raymond Sekelsky, who died February 8, 2018, her sisters; Evelyn Warunek, Irene Breymier, and Betty Gruttaduria, and her brother Robert Warunek.

She is survived by her daughter Lynn Jumper, of Duryea, her brother Ronald Warunek and his wife Judy of Avoca, grandchildren; Katlyn Gacesa and her husband Joseph, Douglas Jumper III, Lauren Jumper and Rachel and Rebecca Johnson. Also surviving are her family friends Ann and Rick Johnson, her best friend Geri Rubel and her great grandchildren pets; Remington, Rhett, Dez and Shilo and several nieces and nephews.

Joan’s family would like to thank the nurses and staff of Hospice of The Sacred Heart and are very grateful for their kindness and excellent care.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of The Sacred Heart, 600 Baltimore Drive, Wilkes-Barre, PA 18702.

Memorial services will be held on Thursday evening, November 5, 2020 at 7:30pm at Kiesinger Funeral Services, Inc., 255 McAlpine St., Duryea with Rev. Don Strope officiating. Friends may call for a walk-through visitation on Thursday evening from 5pm until time of service. Please be mindful if attending the visitation or service that masks and social distancing are mandatory.
