Joan Lucretia Sandy

Joan Lucretia Sandy, 73, of Springbrook Twp., passed away on Friday, December 13, 2024. She was proceeded in death by her parents, James and Stella Horchos of Dupont, PA.

Joan is survived by her dedicated and loving husband of 53 years, Joseph Sandy.  Together they share two daughters, Nicole Peregrim, husband Michael and grandson Michael Joseph, III of Blakely and Angela Kiesinger, husband Alan and grandson Ben Harrison, Avoca.

She is also survived by her devoted brother James Horchos, Dupont. They had a bond filled with memories and tradition which enriched the lives of their families.

Joan was the glue of our family, hosting holiday parties year after year. Her home was open to family and friends, where she cooked spectacular meals and provided her one-of-a-kind humor. Guests never left hungry, empty handed or without a laugh.

Joan was devoted to weekly adoration at St. Catherine of Sienna Church, where she faithfully spent time composing letters to her grandsons, Michael and Ben, whom without doubt were the light of her life.  Their love kept her strong in hard times and in turn she gifted them with her humor, warmth and wisdom to carry them through their lives.

Joan cherished time spent with her Cioci's and best friend Joann Tucky. You made her years meaningful with friendship to last a lifetime and beyond. Joan's cherished relationships also extended to her brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces, and nephews all of whom also brought her much comfort. While she was not fortunate in health, she was gifted with the love of family and friends which made her wealthy beyond measure.

Joan’s death is not to be mourned, but rather celebrated. After spending most of her adult life with chronic illness, she bravely chose hospice as the path to eternal life free from pain. While we are saddened to not have her with us, Joan is deeply embedded into our souls. She will never be far from our hearts.  This Christmas we will celebrate her life, honor her traditions, and sing Happy Birthday to Jesus. She would wish everyone health, wealth, and happiness in the year to follow.

Sincere thank you to Personal Home Health & Hospice. Your kindness during this process helped our Joanie compassionately take control of her life by choosing to pass away peacefully at home surrounded by her husband and daughters.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia as a token of thanks to the excellent care provided to her grandson Ben.

A mass of Christian burial will be held on Wednesday morning, December 18, 2024, at 10am at St. Catherine’s of Siena Parish Church, 220 Church St., Moscow with Monsignor Thomas Muldowney officiating.  Friends may call for visitation on Tuesday evening, December 17th from 5pm-7pm at Kiesinger Funeral Services Inc., 255 McAlpine St., Duryea. Interment will be held at a later date at Sacred Heart of Jesus Cemetery, Dupont.

Joanie you were a one of a kind woman! I am privileged to have had you as a friend who made me laugh, cry when we needed to and accept whatever life gave us. You have left a legacy in your beautiful daughters and their sons. May you rest peacefully and be dancing in Heaven with your Mother! Love, Cioci Ange

You are truly a special family. Shaped and molded by Joan. I’m sorry she was not allotted more time. But no one can argue that it was pure quality.

My love to All,

Diane Maus
