John “Skip” McGlynn, Jr. 62, of Duryea, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, May 5, 2025 at Geisinger CMC Hospital, Scranton.  He was born in Duryea, September 28, 1962 and was the son of John “Hoppy” McGlynn, Sr. and the late Mercedes J. (Gillis) McGlynn.

John’s greatest joys in life came from playing pool and pitch with his son and buddy, John III, and hanging out with his kids and grandkids who affectionately called him “Little Papa.”

John was a member of multiple organizations including the West Side Social Club and the Friendly Sons of Saint Patrick. He was a graduate of Pittston Area High School and then served in the United States Army from 1984-1988 and retired from the United States Postal Service after many years of service. John was one of the most avid Notre Dame fans you will ever meet. His family now finds comfort in knowing he gets to meet Touchdown Jesus in person. John was loved by all who knew him, and his spirit will forever live on in those he loved so fiercely.

In addition to his mother, John is preceded in death by his sister Colleen.

He is survived by his children; Krista Pisano and husband Steve, Danielle Gannon and husband Sean, John McGlynn III and significant other Chloe. Siblings, Nadine McGlynn, Michael McGlynn, Sr. and wife Rainey, and Meredith McGlynn. Also surviving are his grandchildren, Elliana, Grayson, Brielle, and Cameron, and nieces, nephews, aunts, cousins, former spouse, Brenda, and countless friends.

A mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, May 10, 2025 at 9:30 am at Nativity of Our Lord Parish Church, 127 Stephenson St., Duryea, with Fr. Michael Bryant, officiating.  Friends may call for visitation on Friday evening, May 9, 2025, from 4:00pm-8:00pm at Kiesinger Funeral Services, Inc., 255 McAlpine St., Duryea. Friends and family are asked to go directly to Nativity of Our Lord Church for the mass. There will be no procession from the funeral home. Interment will be held at Holy Rosary Cemetery, Duryea.

John was not only my friend, He was also my family. We served together in the Army 40 years ago and have kept in touch over the years. Sadly the last time I saw John was in 2022. John was a master at winning a disagreement with me. He would wear me down until I finally gave up and agreed he was right even when we both knew he was not. John, I will miss you my friend. Til we meet again.
