John W. Moon, 76, of Dupont, passed away peacefully on May 10, 2025, following a period of brief illness.  John was born in Scranton on October 1, 1948, to the late Helen (Walsh) Moon.

John was the husband of Rita (Pezanowski) Moon who preceded him in death on January 22, 2022.  They got married in September 1980.

John was a 1966 graduate of Scranton Central High School.  During his earlier years, John was employed by the former Mercy Hospitals in Scranton, and then Wilkes-Barre, where he worked within the Purchasing and Materials Management department.  He stopped working there in 2003 and held brief jobs over the next several years performing janitorial maintenance for a cleaning contractor.  He was proud to talk about earlier work he did as a golf caddy in Waverly as well as for Turner Construction, and the capacities in which he coached Teener league sports in Scranton.

Throughout his life, John enjoyed cars, watching Westerns, following politics, reading newspapers, watching his favorites Archie Bunker and Al Bundy on TV, listening to music such as Johnny Mathis and Roy Orbison, and loved to go shopping.  He was a sharp dressed man and never once wore a pair of jeans in his adult life.

You could always find him at most Pittston Area sporting events, particularly following the football, baseball, softball and basketball programs.  He was a follower of Little League baseball and enjoyed watching games.  He was a blunt man and spoke directly—you always knew where you stood with him, whether you wanted to hear it or not.

He is survived by his children:  Christopher Moon, and Andrea Collins (Brandon), both of Avoca.  He has two grandchildren who he absolutely adored, Nicholas and Kayleigh Collins, and his grand—dog Max.  He is also survived by a brother Gerald Moon and brother-in-law, Bruce Chodnicki of Scranton, and other extended family members.

The family would like to thank the staff at Geisinger CMC, 6th and 7th floors, and PCU as well as Allied Hospice, Scranton for their loving care in his final days.

A mass of Christian burial will be held on Monday May 19, 2025, at 9:30am at Queen of The Apostles Parish Church, 715 Hawthorne St., Avoca with Fr. Phillip Sladicka officiating.

Friends may call for visitation on Sunday, May 18, 2025, from 5pm-7pm at Kiesinger Funeral Services, Inc., 255 McAlpine St., Duryea.  Friends are asked to go directly to the church on Monday morning for the mass, There will be no procession from the funeral home.  Interment will be held at SS Peter and Paul Cemetery, Avoca at a later date.
