Joseph Romanecz

Joseph Romanecz, 75, of Moosic, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, May 24th, 2022, at his home. Born and raised in the Houston City Section of Avoca on September 25, 1946, he was the son of the late Joseph and Irene Ostrowski Romanecz.

Joe was a member of Queen of The Apostles Parish Church, Avoca. He graduated from Northeast High School, Class of 1964. After graduation, Joe enlisted in the US Air Force, where he served during the Vietnam War from 1964-1968 attaining the rank of Sergeant. Upon returning home, he enrolled at Luzerne County Community College, where he was part of their first graduating class. He also attended King’s College. Joe was a retired supervisor from Social Security Administration.


Joe was an extremely loyal Penn State Football fan. He loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter, fishermen and gardener. Joe was also a member of the Taylor American Legion Post 306. He loved spending time with his family and good friends and enjoyed being involved with the community whenever he could. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.


Joseph is survived by his wife of 48 years, Theresa Bialasewski Romanecz, his daughter Jessica Romanecz, of Avoca and his granddaughter Peyton Passariello. Also surviving are his sisters; Betty Shimko, of Avoca, Arlene Shatrowskas and her husband Anthony, of Avoca, Linda Lehman and her husband Michael, of Duryea, his brother Leonard Romanecz of Duryea, and many nieces and nephews.


Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, May 31, 2022, at 9:30am from Kiesinger Funeral Services, Inc., 255 McAlpine St., Duryea with a mass of Christian burial at 10:00am at Queen of The Apostles Parish Church, 715 Hawthorne St., Avoca with Fr. Phillip Sladicka officiating. Friends may call on Monday evening, May 30th from 5-7pm. Interment will take place on Thursday, June 2, 2022, at SS Peter and Paul Cemetery, Avoca. AMVET Honor Guard of Greater Pittston will provide Military honors.
