Joseph W. Mullen, 87, of Dupont, passed away at his home on Saturday night. Born on March 18, 1936 in Pittston, and raised in the Browntown section, he was the son of the late Joseph and Helen Ochreiter Mullen. His late wife was the former Christina Adams. He was a proud and loving husband, father, and grandfather who will be missed by all who knew him.
A graduate of St. John’s Class of 1953, Joseph was a proud union tradesman. He retired from the Pipefitter/Plumbers Local Union 524 in 1998 after forty years of service and performed extensive volunteer work in his retirement. Joseph was a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus, Council 372. He loved a good joke and recounting his many Browntown stories.
Surviving are his daughter Michele Coyle and husband Michael of Avoca; grandson, his hero, Michael Coyle, of Avoca; companion Kathryn McHale, of Pittston; brother Francis “Buddy” Mullen of Avoca; sisters Virginia Bucha, of Harveys Lake, and Margaret Daley of Pittston; nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, September 14, 2023, at 9:30am from Kiesinger Funeral Services, Inc., 255 McAlpine St., Duryea with a mass of Christian burial at 10:00am at St. John The Evangelist Church, 35 William St., Pittston with Fr. Joseph Elston officiating. Friends may call on Wednesday, September 13th from 4pm-7pm. Interment will be held at the Memorial Shrine Cemetery, Wyoming.
