Judy (O’Hop) Warunek

Judy (O’Hop) Warunek, 73, of Avoca, peacefully passed away on Friday, September 8, 2023. Her devoted family mourns her loss and will always treasure the memory of her love, strength and dedication.

She was born on June 2, 1950, the daughter of the late Louis and Irene O’Hop. She graduated in 1968 from Pittston Area High School. She married her husband Ronald Warunek in 1969, and after the birth of their children, worked at Laura Fashions in Avoca. She later began a career in financial services at Prudential Financial in Moosic, and continued her education at the University Of Scranton. She was recognized and celebrated for her twenty years of service at Prudential.


Judy dearly loved her husband, children and grandchildren. She and her husband Ron referred to each other as “soul mates” reflected in their 55 years of marriage and their devotion to one another. Also Ron’s nickname for Judy “My ABD,” Amazing Baby Doll. Judy loved to be with her family, especially fishing off the dock, experimenting with new recipes, and vacationing at the shore including St. Petersburg, Ocean City, Myrtle Beach and Cape Cod. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend who gave of herself unselfishly and with kindness always.


She is survived by her loving husband Ronald; daughter Amy Sasso (Robert) and son Ronald (Megan); and grandchildren Julia, Ian, Ayden, Veronica. She loved and cared for all of them. Also surviving are her sisters; Linda O’Boyle (Vincent) and Luanne Lampman (Robert) and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her sister Susan and sister Margaret Cawley (John).

A memorial service will take place on Saturday, October 21st at 11:30am at Kiesinger Funeral Services, Inc., 255 McAlpine St., Duryea with Fr. Phillip Sladicka of Queen Of The Apostles Parish Church, Avoca officiating. Friends may call for visitation on Saturday morning from 10am until time of service.
