Kathleen “Kathy” Burns Alu, 70, of Duryea, passed away on Monday, April 18, 2022, at Allied Hospice Center, Scranton. She was born in Avoca on September 20, 1951, and was the daughter of the late Joseph D. “Todd” Burns and Rita Schoonover Burns.
Kathy was a member of Queen of The Apostles Parish Church, Avoca. She was a graduate of St. John The Evangelist High School, Pittston and East Stroudsburg University and completed graduate work at Marywood University. Kathy was employed as a teacher at the Pittston Area School District. She taught elementary education for 34 years.
Kathy is survived by her husband of 36 years, Anthony Alu; her sister Patrice “Trese” Nese and her husband Robert, of Duryea; and her brother Joseph Burns and his wife Marie, of Avoca. Also surviving are her sisters-in-law Carmella Obst and her husband Joseph, of New Jersey, Mary Ellen Alu and her husband Mark Buckelew, of Allentown, and Debbie Montini and her husband Donald, of Avoca; her nephews Todd and Ryan Burns; her niece Katie Nese McGlynn; and numerous other nieces and nephews
A mass of Christian burial will be held on Friday, April 29, 2022, at 10:00am at Queen of The Apostles Parish Church, 715 Hawthorne St., Avoca with Fr. Phillip Sladicka officiating. Interment will be held
privately held at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Carverton.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, PO Box 840692, Dallas, TX 75284-0692 or to Queen of The Apostles Parish Church, 715 Hawthorne St., Avoca, PA 18641.
