Kenneth Shotwell, Sr.

Kenneth Shotwell, Sr., 85, of Duryea, passed away on January 9, 2026, at the Elan Skilled Nursing and Rehab Center, Scranton.  He was born in Avoca on February 16, 1940, and was the son of the late James Daniel Shotwell and Edith Shotwell.


Kenneth was a member of the Brick United Methodist Church in Duryea and a graduate of Avoca High School, Class of 1958. Following graduation, he moved to Philadelphia for employment.  After three years, he returned to Avoca, where he worked for the Aston family sawmill. It was there that he met his beloved wife, Betty Aston Shotwell.


Kenneth later worked for the Modern Gas Company as a truck driver, retiring after 15 years of service.  following retirement, he continued working part -time for Hertz Car Rental in Avoca.


In his younger years, Kenneth was an excellent bowler and for many years proudly served as a coach for the Duryea Little League.  He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.


In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife Betty (Aston) Shotwell, who died September 24, 2019; their infant daughter, Pamela Shotwell; his son Robert Shotwell Sr; and his brothers and sisters, Thomas Shotwell, David Shotwell, Ira Shotwell, Leroy Shotwell, Michael Shotwell, Caroline Kishel, Leona Gnall and his half-sister Verna Gray.


He is survived by his daughters, Robin Pesotini and her husband, Dennis, of Stroudsburg, and Donna Mead and her companion David Plewinski, of Avoca, his son Kenneth Shotwell Jr. and his wife, Lisa, of Florida;  Also surviving are his 14 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; his sisters, Ruth Dushok of Avoca and Isabell Collins of Pittston and several nieces and nephews.


Memorial services will be held on Wednesday, January 14, 2026, at 11:00am at Kiesinger Funeral Services, Inc., 255 McAlpine St., Duryea with Rev. Scott Ryan officiating. 


Friends may call on Tuesday evening, January 13, 2026, from 5:00pm-7:00pm.  Interment will be held at the Marcy Cemetery, Duryea.
