Born Agnes Leona in Pittston, PA on January 21, 1932, by the time she was a teenager, she chose to go by the name Leona for the rest of her life as opposed to having to endure being called “Aggie”.

Always having responded that she was 39 years old when asked her age, it was fitting that she passed at the age of 93. Leona lived a full and joyous life and had the benefit of good health until the past year.

Leona married Alexander Kobilinski on June 25, 1955. Following the marriage, she became a homemaker who raised five children when it was a great time to raise them.

Together with her husband and family, she enjoyed trips to the shore (especially her last trip in 2024), Lake Wallenpaupack, and even attended a Superbowl. Leona also liked to sew, spend time in her garden and can tomatoes when she was not too busy going out to eat.

Ever a devout Catholic, she attended mass every Saturday at Holy Rosary, Duryea for many years. She also attended the St. Ann’s Novena yearly since she was a child. In the old days, she walked with her mother from Pittston to Scranton for the mass. Her faith in God was unwavering and admired by others.

No one had a more positive attitude and demeanor than Leona. Even in her later years, she maintained her sense of humor and continued to make silly comments that would result in laughter for anyone listening. She had the BEST smile that we will never forget and that we will forever miss.

In addition to her husband Alexander, who passed away in 2002, Leona is survived by her loving children, Michael and wife, Denise, Old Forge, Cynthia, Moosic, Andrew and wife, Alicia, Moosic, Robert J. and partner, Marion Ward, Moosic, and Ann Marie, Moosic, who was also her caregiver. Also surviving are grandchildren, Angela Roempagel and her husband, Thor, Stephanie Kobilinski Farruggia, Attorney Robert Kobilinski and his wife, Jennifer, Elyse Rutkowski and her husband Frank, John Walsh, and her great-grandchildren Leah, Clara, Parker, Cadin, Avery, Ellie, Victor, Aiden, Landon,Nathan, and Kyleigh. She will also be missed by her dogs, Isabel, Lucy, Beara, and Nova.

The family would like to thank the staff at Linwood for their excellent care during the past few weeks.

A mass of Christian burial will held on Thursday October 30th, 2025, at 12:30pm at Nativity of Our Lord Parish Church, 127 Stephenson St., Duryea with Fr. Michael Bryant officiating. Friends may call for visitation at the church on Thursday morning from 11:30am until time of mass. Interment to follow at SS Peter and Paul Cemetery, Avoca.

Arrangements are made by Kiesinger Funeral Services, Inc., 255 McAlpine St., Duryea.
