Lillian Shemanski Bonczek

Lillian Shemanski Bonczek, 96, of Avoca, passed away on Tuesday, January 12, 2021 at Allied Hospice, Scranton. She was born in the Browns Patch section of Avoca, December 7, 1924 and was the daughter of the late Henry and Stella Konapinski Shemanski.

Lillian was member of Queen of The Apostles Parish Church (SS Peter and Paul Parish), Avoca and was a 1942 graduate of Avoca High School. For many years Lillian was employed by Parodi Cigar Co. and the Consolidated Cigar Co. She retired in 1990 from Topps Chewing Gum, where she was employed for 25 years.


She was a former member of SS Peter and Paul’s woman’s society and a member of the VFW Post 8335 Ladies Auxiliary, Avoca. Lillian loved her Polish heritage and enjoyed cooking and entertaining for her family and friends. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.


In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband John Bonczek, who died in 1973; her son John Bonczek, who died in 2007; her infant brother, Raymond Shemanski; her brothers Joseph and John Shemanski; and her sister Frances Connolly.


She is survived by her daughter, Barbara Bonczek, of Pittston; her siblings Dorothy Snopkowski, of Naugatuck, CT., Frank and his wife Dolores Shemanski, of Naugatuck, CT., Chester Shemanski, of Scranton, and Ann and her husband Tony Tickowski, of Springbrook; four grandchildren Barbara

Andricks, Joseph and Jason Satkowski and Denise Walsh; six great-grandchildren, Justin Thomas, Kierstyn Satkowski, Lily and Chloe Andricks and Ian and Brenna Satkowski; and many nieces and nephews.


Lillian’s family would like to thank Dr. Martin Moran and staff and also the nurses and staff of Allied Services Hospice for their excellent care and support shown to Lillian and her family.


A mass of Christian burial will be privately held at Queen of The Apostles Parish Church, Avoca with private interment services at SS Peter and Paul Cemetery, Avoca.


Arrangements are made by Kiesinger Funeral Services, Inc., 255 McAlpine St., Duryea.
