Madelyn “Midge” Melucci, 83, of Avoca, passed away unexpectedly at her home on Saturday, June 21, 2025.  Born in Avoca on January 25, 1942, she was the daughter of the late Anthony Karuzie, Sr. and Sophie (Kolander) Karuzie.

Midge was a member of Queen of the Apostles Parish Church, Avoca.  A proud graduate of Avoca High School, Class of 1959, she went on to marry the love of her life, John “Mel” Melucci. Together they raised their family with love and dedication.

After her children were grown, Midge returned to the workforce, first with Schott Optical and later retiring from Topps Chewing Gum.  In her later years, she continued to care for others, working as a home health caregiver for many local families in need.

Midge found joy in the simple pleasures of life.  She loved spending time outdoors, especially fishing with her family.  She also enjoyed puzzles, dinners out, visiting casinos with friends, and most of all, quality time with her dear friend and companion, Joe Prywara.

In addition to her parents and her husband John “Mel” Melucci, who died July 20, 1999, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Anthony Karuzie, and Leonard A. Karuzie.

She is survived by her daughter, Jeanine Wanalista and her husband Charles, of Avoca and her son Ralph Melucci and his wife Joan, of Pittston Twp.  Also surviving are her grandchildren: Amy Wanalista, Charles Wanalista, Jessica Melucci and Jonathon Melucci, her great grandchildren; and great great grandchildren.  She is also survived by her brother Robert Karuzie and his companion Mary Janesko, of Avoca and her sister-in-law and best friend Shirley Karuzie, of Avoca.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, June 25, 2025, at 11:00am at Queen Of The Apostles Parish Church, 715 Hawthorne St., Avoca, with Fr. Phillip Sladicka officiating.  Friends may call for visitation at the church Wednesday morning from 10:00am until time of mass.  Interment will be held at SS Peter and Paul Cemetery, Avoca.

Arrangements are made by Kiesinger Funeral Services, Inc., 255 McAlpine St., Duryea.
