Margaret “Pat” Murdoch, 87, of Avoca, passed away peacefully of natural causes on Wednesday, November 1, 2023. She was born in Avoca, December 4, 1935 and was the daughter of the late James and Cyrilla Fox Moore. In 1962 she married her loving husband Edward who together went on to welcome their two children, Robert and Michele.
During her life Margaret held many roles but her favorite was by far being a grandmother. Her grandchildren lovingly referred to her as Grandma Henry, a nickname that came from an episode of The Wiggles. For her grandchildren, going to Grandma Henry’s house meant Pittsburg Steelers, ice cream, French fries, and a Sunday roast with the greatest mashed potatoes.
In addition to her parents Margaret was preceded in death by her husband Edward Murdoch who died June 6, 1999. Her three sisters Mary O’Brien, Kay Wanalista, and Ann Danoski and 2 brothers Al Moore and Jim Moore.
She is survived by her son, Robert Murdoch, of Avoca and daughter Michele Murdoch, of Avoca. Also surviving are her grandchildren, Anne, Edward, Faith Angle, Justin and Hugh. Her great granddaughter Amelia, who she lovingly referred to as great grandma’s sweetheart, and lastly all the others she considered her grandchildren.
She will be remembered for her never-ending love, not only her family but for anyone who came to her home. She would always say that she was everyone’s Grandma Henry and she truly meant that. To be loved by Grandma Henry was to be loved fiercely for everything you are, and to be believed in regardless of the obstacles you would face. Her family plans to keep her legacy alive for generations to come through the Christmas ornament tradition she started many years ago.
Margaret’s family will be having a private service. They ask that in place of mourning her death people celebrate the beautiful life she lived and that they may even take a page from her book when it comes to loving fiercely and with everything you have.
Arrangements are made by Kiesinger Funeral Services Inc. 255 McAlpine St. Duryea.
