Margaret (Ziobro) Milewski

Dupont’s oldest resident, Margaret (Ziobro) Milewski, 106 years old, entered heaven on Thursday, August 25, 2022. She was born in Dupont on January 1, 1916 and was the daughter of the late Joseph and Josephine (Gwodz) Ziobro. She was a lifelong resident of Dupont and attended Dupont Schools. In 2017, Margaret was honored by the Borough at its Centennial Celebration as the oldest living resident of the Borough.

Margaret was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Church and its Women’s Society. She was also very active with the Polish Union and the former Dupont Senior Citizen’s Organization. She bowled with the Senior Bowling League and the Sunday night Mixed League until she was 87 years old. She loved going to bingo, the casino, and crocheting. She was especially known for her christening sets and poinsettia doilies. Margaret was employed by Main Pants, West Pittston; she retired 53 years ago.


In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Anthony, in 1964; her daughter-in-law, Marlene, in 2014; son Richard, in 201;5 and her son, Leonard, in 2016. Also preceding her in death were brothers, Joseph, Henry, Theodore, and Edward and sister, Eleanor and nephew, Rev. Joseph Ziobro.


Surviving are her children, Dorothy (Emmanuel) Ziobro, Dolores (Anthony) Caltagirone, Diane (Frank) Skrzysowski, and Eugene (Ann Marie) Milewski, all of Dupont and a daughter-in-law, Mary Ann Milewski of Hamlin.


Margaret was blessed with 13 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great grandchildren. She was loved by her family, especially all her great grandchildren.


Among her famous sayings in life were “You have to give to receive (which she did freely)”, “I’m NOT OLD; age is just a number” and “Take it as it comes; one day at a time”. Margaret will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

Margaret’s family would like to thank Dr. Martin Moran and staff, Dr. Thomas Roe and his staff, and the nurses and staff of Allied Hospice for their excellent care and support.


In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph’s Center, 2010 Adams Ave., Scranton, PA 18509.


A mass of Christian burial will be held on Tuesday morning, August 30, 2022, at 10:00am at Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, 217 Lackawanna Ave., Dupont with Fr. Thomas Petro officiating. Friends may call on Monday evening, August 29, 2022, from 6pm-8pm at Kiesinger Funeral Services, Inc., 255 McAlpine St., Duryea. Family and friends are asked to go directly to the church on Tuesday morning there will be no procession from the funeral home. Interment will be held at the parish cemetery.
