Marie A. Yonushka

Marie A. Yonushka, 98, of Duryea, passed away Thursday, November 26, 2020 at Wesley Village Nursing Home.

Marie was the daughter of the late Anthony and Julia Yonushka and was a graduate of Duryea High School. She was formerly employed at the Consolidated Cigar Co. of West Pittston.

Marie was an active member of Nativity of Our Lord Parish where she was a Eucharistic minister, a member of the choir, and participated in summer picnic preparation and fundraising for the parish. She was faithful to her family, especially in times of illness or advanced age, and she helped with their care when in need. She was a loving, gentle person who had a good word for everyone she knew. Marie loved to watch football and baseball on TV and enjoyed going to the casino when she was able. Her presence will be missed at our family holiday dinners, where she would always say grace and was always thankful and prayed for our troops to be safe.

In addition to her parents, Marie was preceded in death by brothers, Albert and John, and sister, Regina Yonushka Kovalan and niece, Julianne Yonushka and nephew, Joseph Yonushka.

She is survived by her brother, Joseph Yonushka, Duryea and nieces and nephews, Patricia Brady, Duryea; Vincent Yonushka and his wife, Rose, Duryea; Denise Yanushka Gibson and her husband, John of Tulsa, Oklahoma; Janice Yanushka Bunn and her husband, Bruce of Plattsburgh, New York; John Yanushka of Westfield, New Jersey; and James Yanushka and his wife, Hyoung of San Diego, California as well as several great nieces and nephews.

Marie’s family would like to thank Dr. Fasciana, Compassionate Care Hospice, and the staff of Wesley Village for the care and kindness that she was given.

Private funeral will be held with arrangements by Kiesinger Funeral Services, Inc. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Nativity of Our Lord Parish, Duryea at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, December 2, 2020.

I am so sorry to hear about Marie’s passing. I had the privilege of singing in the choir with her. She led a wonderful life and was well traveled. I enjoyed speaking to her and about her trips and admired her for her grace and style. She will be missed. ❤️
