Marie Helen Prusinski (Felter)

Marie Helen Prusinski (Felter), a lifetime Moosic resident, passed away peacefully on September 26, 2022. Born Mary Helen Felter on January 4, 1932, she was the daughter of the late Bert and Helen (Hoag-Thomas) Felter.

Marie graduated from Moosic High School in 1949 where she met her high school sweetheart and future husband, Joseph Paul Prusinski. Together they had two sons, Joseph Paul, Jr. and Eugene David.

Marie was a resilient, independent, and hardworking woman. She spoke proudly of her first job as a waitress at the SS Kresge Company luncheonette counter in Scranton where she would take the bus for just a nickel. She supported her sons’ love for little league as an Auxiliary Mother for the Moosic Little League. Prior to her retirement, she was employed by the Riverside School District as the High School Assistant Librarian where the students fondly referred to her as “Mrs. P.”

Marie took great pride in her family, home, and Irish heritage. Living her entire life in Moosic and eighty-seven plus years on the corner of Brook and Spruce Streets, you could often find her tending to her yard or sitting on her glider keeping an eye on the neighborhood. She was happiest when she was surrounded by her family; sharing her many, many, stories of times gone by.

As the last surviving member of her immediate family, she was preceded in death by her parents, Bert and Helen; her husband, Joseph Prusinski; two brothers, Eugene and Michael Felter; and half-brother and sister, John and Ann Marie Thomas.

Marie and her feisty nature will be deeply missed by her family and friends. She is survived by her sons, Joseph and wife Patricia of Port Washington, NY; Eugene of Old Forge, PA; her six grandchildren, Melanie, Kristen, Amy, Eugene (Buddy), Jennifer, and Joseph; and her seven great grandchildren.

Marie’s family would like to express their sincerest gratitude to Mountain View Care Center, especially the nurses, aides, and staff of Magical Court. Your excellent care and compassion will never be forgotten.

A mass of Christian burial will be held on Monday, October 3rd at 10:00am at Queen of the Apostles Parish Church, 715 Hawthorne St., Avoca, with Fr. Phillip Sladicka officiating. Interment will be held at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Avoca. Friends may call on Sunday evening, October 2nd from 4pm to 6pm at Kiesinger Funeral Services, Inc., 255 McAlpine St., Duryea.
