Martin M. “Skeets” Williams

Martin M. “Skeets” Williams, 96, of Hughestown, passed away on Tuesday, December 31, 2024, at Allied Services Skilled Nursing Center in Wilkes-Barre.  born in Hughestown on January 19, 1928, he was the son of the late Martin and Elizabeth (Thomas) Williams.


Martin was a lifelong member of Blessed Sacrament Church, Hughestown and Our Lady of the Eucharist Parish Church, Pittston.  He was a graduate of Hughestown High School, class of 1946, where he was captain of the basketball and baseball teams . He proudly served in the US Army following graduation as a Medical and Neuropsychiatric Technician from 1946-1948.  After his discharge from the Army, he played for the Red Devils – a semi pro baseball team in the area. He later retired from the PA State Department of Environmental Resources where he worked as an Anthracite Mine Engineer.

 

Throughout his life, Martin was a devoted father, husband, brother, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He found joy in spending time with his family and especially cherished traveling with his wife, Ann, to destinations like Branson, Ireland and his beloved Notre Dame. He also enjoyed spending time with his best friend, “BUDDY”. Martin celebrated his 50th anniversary on a cruise with his entire family.   He was a lifetime member of the Pittston Knights of Columbus and served on the Hughestown Boro Council as well as the North East School Board. He will be dearly missed by everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him.

 

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife of 73 years, Ann Flynn Williams, who died February 16, 2024; as well as his brothers Joseph and Patrick, and twin brothers Gerald and James.

 

He is survived by his daughter Suzanne Williams, of Hughestown, his sons Patrick Williams and his wife Debra of Lititz, and Martin Williams Jr. and his wife Theresa of Hughestown.  He is also survived by his grandchildren:  Erika, Ashley, Justin, Martin III and Megan and great grandchildren: Max, Bodi, and Arielle, and numerous nieces and nephews.

 

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-9959

 

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 18th at Kiesinger Funeral Home at 255 McAlpine St., Duryea. Friends may visit from 10am to 11am, followed by a service at 11am.

Interment will be held privately at the convenience of the family. AMVETS Honor Guard of Greater Pittston will provide military honors.
