Martin “Marty” Panek, 82, of Covington Twp., passed away at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Hospital, Wilkes-Barre on Wednesday March 22, 2023. Born in Avoca, December 23, 1940, he was the son of the late Joseph and Josephine Wasik Panek.
Marty was a member of St. Catherine’s Church, Moscow. He was a graduate of Avoca High School, Class of 1959. He then joined the US Air Force, having served from 1959 to 1963. Marty retired from METLIFE, Clarks Summit as an IT department programmer.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister Barbara Gurdock.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Ethel Mirch Panek; his children, Heather Panek and her husband George Caprioli, of Rockledge, FL, Melissa Barbuti and her husband Joseph of Old Forge, and Douglas Panek and his wife Linda of Clifton Twp. Also surviving are grandchildren, Faith Fowler and her husband Ryan, Brooke and Riley Panek, Evan Caprioli, and Grace, Lily, Nina and Joseph Barbuti as well as several nieces and nephews.
A mass of Christian burial will be held on Monday, March 27, 2023, at 11:00am at St. Catherine’s Church, 220 Church St., Moscow with Fr. Thomas Muldowney officiating. Interment will be held at a later date.
