Mary Ellen “Luck” Pokorney, 82, of Avoca, passed away peacefully June 4, 2021, at her Avoca home while listening to Elvis Presley and surrounded by her loving family.
She was born and raised in Duryea on January 25, 1939, and was the daughter of the late Lawrence and Esther Shotwell.
Mary Ellen was a member of Nativity of Our Lord Parish Church, Duryea. She was a 1956 graduate of Duryea High School. Luck retired from the Family Affair Restaurant, Taylor after many years of employment. She was a loving, wife, mother, sister, aunt and friend and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband Eugene Pokorney, who died October 11, 1998.
Mary Ellen is survived by her son Robert Zikoski and his partner Donald “Skip” Diehl, of Avoca; her siblings Judy Lockett and husband Kirk, of Scottsdale, AZ, Nancy Ferretti and her husband Rodger, of Old Forge, Larry Shotwell and his wife Sharon, of Duryea, Debbie Trolio and her husband John, of Moosic, and several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
Mary Ellen’s family would like to thank Compassionate Care Hospice and nurse Lisa Bourne for the kindness and excellent care that was provided to Mary Ellen.
Funeral services will be privately held.
