Mary (McGlynn) Blanchard, 87, of Duryea passed away peacefully on May, 28th, 2026 at Hospice of the Sacred Heart, Dunmore. Mary was born in Avoca on September, 13, 1938 and was the daughter of the late Thomas and Mary (Marley) McGlynn of Avoca.

She was a member of Nativity of Our Lord Parish, Duryea and a graduate of Duryea High School. She retired from First Financial Group and prior to that worked at Aureus LTD.
Her family was her entire world, and her grandchildren were her absolute joy. She consistently placed the needs of her family and friends above her own, leaving behind a legacy rooted in unyielding kindness, generosity, and remarkable strength. Even in times of illness or adversity, Mary never faltered, always prioritizing the care and comfort of those she loved.
Mary will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. While our hearts are truly broken by her loss, to have been loved by her was an immense blessing. She was a truly one-of-a-kind woman whose lifelong courage was monumental. Intensely proud of her Irish heritage, Mary never missed a chance to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day surrounded by family and friends. She was the life of every gathering, bringing laughter to the room and making everyone feel genuinely welcomed and loved.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John “Doc” Blanchard, son; John Blanchard Jr., four brothers; John “Hoppy” McGlynn and his wife Mercedes, Thomas McGlynn and his wife Anna Rita, Martin McGlynn and his wife Rose, and Leo McGlynn. Sisters-in-law; Anna (Stanley) Lacomis, Dorothy (Edward) Skurjunis, Catherine (Joseph) Doxbeck, Margaret Nevorski, Ruth (Willis) Griffin and brother-in-law, Joseph Blanchard.
Mary is survived by her daughter, Janine Rizzo and her husband Joseph, Willow Grove, grandchildren; Shannon Rizzo, Kyle Rizzo and Zachery Rizzo, her sister-in-law, Patricia McGlynn, several nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and cousins.
A mass of Christian Burial will be held at Nativity of Our Lord Parish, 127 Stephenson Street, Duryea at 10:00 on Saturday, June 6th with Fr. Michael Bryant officiating. Family and friends may call for visitation at the church, from 9-10:00 until the time of mass.
The family wishes to thank all the medical professionals who treated and cared for Mary during her illness, especially the nurses at Hospice of Sacred Heart, for the comfort and compassion shown to Mary and her family during this difficult time.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Sacred Heart, 100 William St. Dunmore, PA 18512.
