Michael Tomasko

Michael Tomasko, 72, of Duryea, passed away on March 21, 2022, at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Hospital, Wilkes-Barre. He was born in Scranton on April 26, 1949 and was the son of the late Michael and Ruth (Evans) Tomasko.

Michael was a 1968 graduate of Harrison High School in Harrison, NJ. He joined the US Army and served in Italy during the Vietnam War from 1969 -1971. Throughout his life, he was employed for the Shop-Rite Supermarket of Kearny, NJ and retired in 2002. After retirement, he worked for Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical providing patient transport. Michael was an avid poker player and enjoyed playing the game at the Mohegan Sun Casino. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.


In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his daughter Denise Tomasko, who passed away July 5, 2020, his brother Robert Tomasko and two infant daughters.


Michael is survived by his wife of 43 years, Joan Kuchinski Tomasko, his daughter Laura Lombardi and her husband Nuncio of Moosic, and his six grandchildren: Jacob Tomasko, Megan and Emma Fallon, and Gerard, James and Nicholas Lombardi. Also surviving are his sister Cheryl Wolf of Scranton and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.


A mass of Christian burial will be held on Saturday, April 9, 2022, at 11:00am at Queen of The Apostles Parish Church, 715 Hawthorne St., Avoca with Fr. Phillip Sladicka officiating.


In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Queen of The Apostles Parish Church, 715 Hawthorne St., Avoca, PA 18641 or to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research, Grand Central Station, P.O. Box 4777, NY, NY 10163-4777.


Arrangements are made by Kiesinger Funeral Services, Inc., 255 McAlpine St., Duryea.
