Nancy Cavalari Grella

Nancy Cavalari Grella, 78, of Avoca, passed away surrounded by her loving family on Saturday, March 16th, 2024, at her home.  She was born on December 3, 1945, and was the daughter of the late Ernest and Francis (Soy) Cavalari. 


Nancy was a graduate of Northeast High School, Duryea, class of 1963. She then attended the Jerrytone School of Beauty, Pittston and was a licensed beautician.  Nancy worked for many years from her beauty shop located in her home. She enjoyed doing hair for her neighbors, friends, and her family.  Nancy also worked at Topps Chewing Gum and retired at the age of 62 from Kappa Graphics to become her granddaughter Kaelee’s caregiver.

 

Nancy was a loving mother and cherished her time spent with her grandchildren; they were the apple of her eye.  She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

 

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, John J. Grella, who died November 7, 2018, her infant brother Martin Cavalari, her sister Lois Kobeski, and her godson Thomas Kobeski.

 

She is survived by her children, Betsy Grella, of Avoca, Mary Jane and her partner Kim Eckley, of Avoca, Lynn Marie Potoski and her husband Thomas, of Exeter and Christopher and his companion Nichole Sholcosky, of Avoca, her grandchildren Jonathan and his partner Dayna Kiwak, Sky, and Kaelee, and her great-grandson Conor.  Also surviving are her sister Janet Felice, of Old Forge, brothers, Ernest Cavalari and his wife Mary, of Avoca and Raymond Cavalari, of New Jersey, brother-in-law and sisters-in-law Richard Grella and his wife Paulette of Duryea and JoAnn Grella, of Duryea and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

 

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, March 20, 2024, at 9:30am from Kiesinger Funeral Services, Inc., 255 McAlpine St., Duryea with a mass of Christian burial at 10:00am at Queen of the Apostles Parish Church, 715 Hawthorne St., Avoca with Fr. Phillip Sladicka officiating.  Friends may call on Tuesday evening, March 19, 2024 from 5pm-8pm.  Interment will be held at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Avoca.

 

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude PL., Memphis, TN 38105-9959.

Sorry for the lost of your mom. Nancy was a blast. I last seen her at Mark's house, Mark was in the attic looking for childhood toys. Mark had a flimsy wood ladder to get up in the attic I'm a 378lb full grown man. I made a cupping motion with my hands to Nancy, to boost me up into the attic. She said are you crazy! She said I will get down on my hands and knees and you can climb up on my back to get into the attic. We laughed so hard I thought I would pass out. She was a funny, special person. Until we meet again, you and my mom stay out of trouble. Lov…
