Peter E. Skutack

Peter E. Skutack, a proud veteran of the US Army, passed away on December 1st, 2024 At Wesley Village Nursing and Rehab Center, Pittston.  He was the beloved husband of the late Lois Rheinschmidt Skutack with whom he shared 42 years of marriage. 


Born in Old Forge on February 5, 1936, he was the youngest son of the late Catherine Czaja Skutack and John Skutack, Sr.  Peter is preceded in death by brothers John Jr., Edward, Robert, Daniel and sister Josephine Whah. 

Peter graduated from Old Forge High School, Class of 1954 and University of Scranton, Class of 1958, before enlisting in the US Army.  He served honorably as a Corporal in the US Army Signal Corp.  He worked many years for the American Can Company, Moosic and retired from the Tobyhanna Army Depot.


Tough and competitive, Peter played high school and college football.  He was fondly known as “Penn State Pete”  their biggest fan and he coached the team from his favorite chair.  An avid hunter and fisherman, he loved the outdoors in all seasons.  Strong-willed with an enormous heart and dry sense of humor, he relished his role as batman in the family. 


A loving husband, father, and grandfather, he often cited his family as his greatest achievement.   


Surviving are his children, daughter Lisa Skutack, Peter J. Skutack and wife Angela, Michael Skutack and wife Melissa, Mark Skutack and wife Daneen, and sister-in-law Ann Freas.  Pop-pop was proud of his grandchildren Michael, Justin, Madeline, Andrew, and Kyle.  He enjoyed spending time with them laughing and hearing of their latest accomplishments.  Surrounded by numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins, and friends, he is loved by all and will be forever missed.     


A mass of Christian burial will be held on Friday, December 6th at 10am at Our Lady of the Eucharist Parish Church, 535 N. Main St., Pittston, PA with Fr. Kenneth Seegar officiating. 


Friends may call on Thursday evening, December 5th from 5pm-8pm at Kiesinger Funeral Services, Inc., 255 McAlpine St., Duryea.  Interment will be held at St. Mary’s Assumption Cemetery, Hughestown. AMVETS Honor Guard of Greater Pittston will provide military honors.  Family and friends are asked to go directly to the church on Friday morning for the mass. There will be no procession from the funeral home.
