Raymond J. Smitka, 78, of Duryea, passed away on November 29, 2021 at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital, Wilkes-Barre. He was born in Duryea, May 23, 1943, and was the son of the late Stanley and Anna (Klink) Smitka.
Raymond was a graduate of Duryea High School class of 1961. After graduating high school, he joined the US Army and served during the Vietnam War and was a Purple Heart recipient. Raymond was employed by Mid Atlantic Bank in New Jersey for 21 years. He then moved back to NEPA and worked for the US Post Office and retired after 17 years of employment.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother Daniel Smitka.
Raymond is survived by his sister Carol Conway, of South Bend, Indiana; his nieces and nephews, Joseph Smitka and his wife Jennifer, Michael Smitka and his wife Karen, Margaret Smitka Salvin and her husband Ben, Michael Radandt, and Chad Radandt and his fiancé Lisa; and six great-nieces and nephews.
A mass of Christian burial will be held on Saturday, December 4, 2021, at 12:30pm at Nativity of Our Lord Parish Church,127 Stephenson St., Duryea with
Fr. Michael Bryant officiating. Friends may call on Saturday morning, December 4th from 11:30am until time of mass. Interment will be held at Holy Rosary Cemetery, Duryea. The AMVETS Honor Guard of Greater Pittston will provide military honors.
