Richard G. Lyons

Richard G. Lyons, 76, of Bear Creek Twp. passed away on Tuesday, December 14, 2021, at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Hospital, Wilkes-Barre. He was born in Newark, NJ and was the son of the late Patrick J. and Mary Lyons.

Richard was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, Dupont. He was a graduate of Essex Catholic High School, Newark, NJ and was a graduate of Kutztown University. He obtained his master’s degree from Montclair State University, Montclair, NJ. Richard spent his entire career as an educator in the Harrison, New Jersey Public School System, having been an educator, administrator, vice principal and retired as principal of the Washington Middle School, Harrison, NJ. Richard also served as the assistant football coach for many years and was head coach for Harrison High School for four years.


Richard was a member of the Knights Of Columbus Council 402, Harrison, NJ. He was a die-hard Dallas Cowboy and Penn State Football fan. He was a loving and devoted husband, brother, uncle, and friend and he will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.


He is survived by his wife Patricia Lyons, his brothers; Thomas Lyons and his wife Siana, of Marlton, NJ, Patrick Lyons, Jr. and wife Laurie, of Camp Hill, PA and his sister Mary Claire Moreau and her husband Griff, of Timonium, MD. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.


Funeral services will be held on Monday, December 20, 2021, at 10:30 from Kiesinger Funeral Services, Inc., 255 McAlpine St., Duryea with a mass of Christian burial at 11:00am at Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, 215 Lackawanna Ave., Dupont with Fr. Louis A. Grippe officiating. Friends may call on Sunday evening from 4pm-7pm and on Monday morning from 9:30am until time of services. Interment will be held at St. John the Baptist Cemetery, Cedar St., Exeter, PA.
