Rita Ann (Pezanowski) Moon

Rita Ann (Pezanowski) Moon, of Dupont, passed away peacefully on Saturday evening, January 22, 2022, at Allied Hospice Center, Wilkes-Barre. She was born in Avoca, August 8, 1950, to the late William (Bill) and Ann Pezanowski.

Rita was a 1968 graduate of St. John’s High School, Pittston. She was a member of Queen of the Apostles Parish, Avoca. She was a faithful woman who especially loved participating in St. Ann’s Novena each summer. Rita worked for several decades as an LPN at Community Medical Center, Scranton, and following that, for several more years as a home health and hospice nurse for various agencies.


Rita always enjoyed baking and cooking and was proud to share her recipes and goodies to those she loved. She was a loving wife, mother, nana, sister, cousin, and friend to all who knew her. Her grandchildren, Nicholas and Kayleigh, were a bright light in her life, and she continually loved to spoil them with treats.


In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by several dear cousins, aunts and uncles, and a brother-in-law.


Rita is survived by her husband of 41 years, John; her children Chris, of Dupont, and Andrea (Brandon) Collins of Avoca, and grandchildren, Nicholas and Kayleigh Collins. She is also survived by a sister, Mary

Ann Gallagher, of Ashley, two nieces, a brother-in-law, Gerald Moon, of Scranton, and several cousins and friends.


The family would like to thank the staff at Allied Hospice for their compassionate care and Rita’s dear friend of over 50 years, Rose Marie Marselles, who was with her during her passing.


A mass of Christian burial will be held on Thursday, January 27th, 2022, at 10:00am at Queen of The Apostles Parish Church, 715 Hawthorne St., Avoca, with Fr. Phillip Sladicka officiating. Friends may call on Thursday morning from 9am until time of mass. Interment will be held at SS Peter and Paul Cemetery, Avoca. Family and friends that are attending the services are strongly encouraged to abide by the CDC guidelines, to take precautions, and wear a facial mask when entering the church.
