Robert G. McDermott, 75, of Duryea, passed away on Thursday, May 8th, 2025, at Highland Manor Nursing Home, Exeter. Born in the Pittston Hospital, he was the son of the late Robert McDermott Thomas and Thelma Endres McDermott Thomas and stepson of the late Mickey Thomas.

Robert was a graduate of Milton Hershey’s class of 1969. After graduation, Robert joined the US Marines Corps. He was a member of Holy Rosary Church in Duryea. Prior to retirement, Robert was employed as a maintenance mechanic at McKinney, the hinge plant.
Robert was a devoted family man who dedicated his life to family and friends. Robert married his childhood love, having met through a pen pal program at their respective schools. He enjoyed hunting, playing cards, going to car shows, and spending time with his beloved family members. If anyone ever needed a hand, he was there to help them out.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Terry Beseda.
Surviving are his loving wife of 52 years, Karen Cremard McDermott; his son Robert and wife, Kim Talarico McDermott, and his daughter, Ann Marie McDermott Kondrad. Robert was blessed with 4 grandchildren and one great grandchild, Marissa McDermott, Gianna McDermott, Kaitlyn Kondrad, Christopher Kondrad, and Maya Fedor. Robert is also survived by his sister, Maggie Petrilli, brother-in-law Raymond Petrilli, brother, David McDermott, sister-in-law Joyce McDermott, multiple cousins, and several nieces and nephews.
A mass of Christian burial will be held on Saturday, June 7th at 10:00 AM at Nativity of Our Lord Parish Church, 127 Stephenson St., Duryea with Fr. Michael Bryant officiating. Friends may call on Friday evening, June 6th from 5pm-7pm at Kiesinger Funeral Services, Inc., 255 McAlpine St., Duryea. Family and friends are asked to go directly to the church; there will be no procession from the funeral home.
