Sara “Maryann” McDonald Gallagher, 76, of Pittston, passed away on Monday, October 18, 2021, at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Hospital, Wilkes-Barre. She was born in the Browntown Section of Pittston Twp. on December 25, 1944 and was the daughter of the late Michael and Anna (Boles) McDonald.

Sara was a member of St. Joseph Marello Parish Church, Pittston. She was a graduate of Pittston High School.
Sara’s life was her dedication to her family and to her faith. She was a loving wife to her husband of 37 years, James Gallagher, who died in 2007, and devoted her life to the well being of her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Sara loved to cook, work in her garden, and tend to her wide variety of houseplants. She also enjoyed shopping with her niece Annie and playing bingo with her friends. She was a loving sister, aunt, and friend and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
In addition to her parents and her husband James, she is preceded in death by her son, Joseph, who died on August 25, 2021 as well as her siblings; Francis, Joanie, Jerry, Michael and Arthur.
She is survived by her children; Diane McDonald and her husband Mark Buckley, of Pittston, Brenda Vischansky and her husband William, of Pittston, her
daughter in law Neva Gallagher, of Pittston, her step son Michael King and his wife Betty of Maryland, and her step daughter Janine Shatrowskas, of Pittston. Also surviving are her grandchildren; Sean, Kayla, T.J., Mariah, Matthew, Kelsey, Madeline, Preston, and Courtney, her 13 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, October 26, 2021, at 12:30pm from Kiesinger Funeral Services, Inc., 255 McAlpine St., Duryea with a mass of Christian burial at 1:00pm at St. Joseph Marello Parish Church, 237 William St., Pittston with Fr. Paul McDonnell OSJ, officiating. Friends may call on Monday evening, October 25th from 5-8pm at Kiesinger Funeral Services, Inc., 255 McAlpine St., Duryea. Interment will be held at St. Rocco’s Cemetery, Pittston.
