Sharon Acernese Washinski, 77, of Jenkins Twp., passed away at her home on May 15, 2022. She was born in Pittston, April 25, 1945 and was the daughter of the late Louis and Eva Trotter Acernese.
Sharon was a graduate of Northeast High School, Duryea. She worked for RCA in Mountain Top, the local garment industry, JCPenney department store for many years and for Sam’s Club. Sharon was also the owner and operator of Acernese II Trucking Company, and she retired from Penguin Putnam Publishing Company.
Sharon was an active member of the Jenkins Twp. Crime Watch. She was an avid NASCAR fan attending hundreds of NASCAR races throughout the country over the years. She enjoyed organizing many shopping bus trips to New York City. She enjoyed the art of quilting and loved traveling to area casinos and her trips to Atlantic City. She was a loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great grandmother and friend and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her brother Louis J. Acernese Jr. and her sister Rosalie Grebeck.
Sharon is survived by her daughters; Rhonda Lavan and her husband Jerry, of Plains and Dawna Patterson and her husband Reese, of Avoca. Her sisters; Eva Mae Falcone, of Pittston and Theresa Roebuck, of Wilkes-Barre. Also surviving are her grandchildren; Kristen Patterson, Kassandre Stokes and husband Dashaun, Kyle Patterson and his wife Tricia and Jerry Lavan, and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, May 24th at 10:30am at Kiesinger Funeral Services, 255 McAlpine St., Duryea with Fr. Joseph Elston of St. John The Evangelist parish church officiating. Friends may call for visitation on Monday evening, May 23rd from 4-7pm.
