Thelbert W. “Sonny” McCracken, 80, of Avoca, passed away on Friday, October 1, 2021 at the Highland Manor Nursing and Rehab Center, Exeter. He was born in Avoca, March 1, 1941 and was the son of the late Albert and Hattie (Luvender) McCracken.
Sonny was a graduate of Avoca High School class of 1958. After graduation, he joined the US Army and was enlisted from 1959-1964. Sonny retired as a truck driver hauling coal in his younger years and freight for many local trucking companies.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife of 48 years, the former Barbara Elaine (Soy) McCracken; his son Stanley McCracken; his brother James McCracken; and his sister Hattie Callahan.
Thelbert is survived by his sons, William of Pittston, and Larry of South Carolina. Also surviving are 7 grandchildren, many great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family.
