Thomas J. Carroll Sr.

Thomas J. Carroll Sr., 76, of Avoca, passed away unexpectedly on Friday ,August 22, 2025, at his home.  Born in Scranton on December 24, 1948, he was the son of the late Joseph and Nan (Coughlin) Carroll.

Tom was proud of his family and of having grown up in the town of Avoca.  After attending Wilmington College, Tom practiced accounting at his father’s Main Street Avoca practice and embarked on business ventures before landing in his main career of being a financial advisor.  He was a great advisor beyond just finance and helped advise many people who looked to him for advice to navigate the path of their business and personal lives.  He lived a happy and full life while being surrounded by people that loved him dearly.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sister, Noreen.

He is survived by his wife Molly, brother-in-law William Tracy and his wife Leslie, son Brenden and daughter in law Jessica, son TJ and daughter in law Melicia, brothers Joseph, Michael, and Timmy, sister Anne Marie, and grandchildren Cason, Brynn, Blake and Brady.

Tom and Molly were High School sweethearts having attended St. John’s High School in Pittston and were married for nearly 50 years.  Their loving relationship brought them two boys whom they were incredibly proud of. TJ is a Villanova Law School Graduate, and Brenden a UPS driver of a decade now.  Tom’s pride in his two boys was surpassed only by the close, unique, relationships he had with each of his grandchildren.  He loved where he came from and loved his family. Poppi will be greatly missed and never forgotten.

A mass of Christian burial will be held on Thursday morning, August 28, 2025, at 11:00am at Queen Of The Apostles Parish Church, 215 Hawthorne St., Avoca with Fr. Thomas Petro officiating. Calling hours will be held at Kiesinger Funeral Services, Inc., 255 McAlpine St., Duryea, on Thursday morning from 9:00am until 10:30am.  Interment will be held at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Avoca.
